Shuttle Bus Line Planning in Response to Unexpected Disruption in Urban Rail Transit Networks

When metro systems need to be temporarily closed due an unexpected disruption, the operators have arrange shuttle buses as alternative transport for trains, while passengers find new routes complete their journeys. However, additional bus lines might redundant if well-known phenomenon of “Braesss Paradox” exists. To address this issue, paper proposes a bi-level programming model in which objective upper-level is minimize number lines, lower-level UE (User Equilibrium) that simulates route choice passengers. solve model, Overload Arc-oriented Heuristics (OAH) algorithm developed initial solution, and then we develop BS (Bi-direction Search) obtain optimal solution our model. Numerical cases partial Beijing Metro network proved efficiency effectiveness method, result shows that: (1) compared with standard bridging routes, can significantly reduce stranded passengers; (2) at each station controlled by two strategies: adjust departure frequency line control passenger flow station.
